What startup names are most effective?

Adam Zelcer Contributor Share on Twitter Adam Zelcer founded the advertising company Adboy.com. Entrepreneurs take a long journey when naming their brainchild, comparable to a parent naming their own flesh and blood. There are many reasons behind naming – one untalked-of and probably the most important. This is, how to choose a name that gets you more business. Technology changes how we do business. So, when developing a business name, putting some thought into how people are going to find you and what you want them to […]

Verified Expert Growth Marketing Agency: Right Side Up

Right Side Up is not your typical growth marketing agency. As a former entrepreneur and in-house growth marketer for startups like Eventbrite, founder Tyler Elliston says he created RSU as a way to help his former self. RSU recruits a collective of expert growth marketers and partners them with various companies, but unlike a traditional agency, RSU actively encourages growth teams to hire their top talent. It may seem counterintuitive, but two and a half years later, with more than 250 marketers in their “growth collective”, and […]

AdHawk raises $13M as it expands into the flooring industry

Why is an adtech startup going after the flooring industry? That was my big question when I got on the phone with AdHawk CEO Todd Saunders and COO Dan Pratt. The company announced earlier this week that it’s raised a $13 million Series B round of funding in conjunction with the launch of a new website, FlooringStores. “We look at AdHawk as the umbrella company,” Saunders explained. “Our core is a digital marketing company that’s built very strong machine learning. Now FloorForce is the brand we’re using […]

Measured promises a smarter approach to ad attribution

Measured is giving advertisers a new way to determine whether their ads are actually working. Many of those advertisers currently rely on multi-touch attribution, an approach designed to measure how each channel and each ad contributed to a purchase decision. In fact, that’s what Measured CEO Trevor Testwuide offered at his last startup, Conversion Logic. But Testwuide (who co-founded Measured with CTO Madan Bharadwaj) said this approach has serious limitations, particularly when it comes to measuring channels like Facebook, as well as offline channels like direct mail. “I […]

CEO Howard Lerman on building a public company and the future of Yext

It’s just over two years since Yext debuted on the New York Stock Exchange, and to mark the occasion, I sat down with co-founder and CEO Howard Lerman for an interview. As Lerman noted, Yext — which allows businesses to manage their profiles and information across a wide variety of online services — actually presented onstage at the TechCrunch 50 conference back in 2009. Now, it boasts a market capitalization of nearly $2.3 billion, and it just revealed plans to take over a nine-floor building in New […]

The well-known tech startup routine of coming up with an idea, raising money from VCs in increasing rounds as valuations continue to rise and then eventually going public or getting acquired has been around for as long as the myth of Silicon Valley itself. But the evolution of Mailchimp — a notable, bootstrapped outlier out of Atlanta, Ga. that provides email and other marketing services to small businesses — tells a very different story of tech startup success. As the company closes in on $700 million in […]
